STATE COLLEGE – The National Weather Service in State College has advised that a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until midnight. Additionally, the NWS has advised that a Wind Chill Advisory will be in effect from 7 p.m. tonight until 12 p.m. Friday in the northwest mountains.
The NWS anticipates hazardous types of snow and dangerous wind chills. Snow accumulations, the NWS stated, will be an additional three to four inches today and another one to two inches early tonight with storm totals being six to nine inches.
According to the NWS, wind chill readings will be falling 15 to 20 below zero tonight and Friday morning. The period of the most intense snowfall will occur from late morning through this evening, the NWS stated.
As a result, travel will become hazardous due to snow-covered roadways and reduced visibility. Blowing snow will further reduce visibilities this evening, and motorists are asked to use caution if traveling, the NWS stated.
If you plan to be outdoors, the NWS has advised you to dress in layers with a hat and glove. The NWS reminded that frostbite and hypothermia will be possible if precautions aren’t taken.
