WINGATE — The Clearfield Area High School girls basketball team broke into the Mountain League win column by coming from behind in the second half to pin a 39-32 loss on Bald Eagle Area Monday night.
The Lady Bison, who had led 16-15 at intermission, closed the game on a 19-5 run after trailing 27-20 late in the third period.
Brianna Spencer triggered the rally with the first of her two three-pointers while Emily Aveni and Maggie Sopic scored four points apiece in the final period when the Lady Bison posted a 14-4 advantage.
“We played really good defense and got some turnovers in that run,” Clearfield coach Joey Castagnolo said. “Also we made some crucial shots.”
Aveni paced the Lady Bison with a career-high 12 points. Sopic chipped in with nine and Mary Ishman added eight, her career high.
Logan Fischer scored 12 points for the Lady Eagles, who are winless after losing the starting five and a top reserve from last season’s league championship team.
Led by Sarah Lash’s eight points, the Lady Bison junior varsity also won, 25-18.
Clearfield (2-4, 1-2 ML) will host Bellefonte Friday.
