Clearfield County 4-H Members Participate in State Horse Show

HARRISBURG – Eighteen Clearfield County 4-H members recently participated with 24 horses and ponies in the 54^th Annual Pennsylvania State 4-H Horse Show, which was held Oct. 25-27 at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex and Expo Center in Harrisburg.

More than 800 youth from 59 counties and 969 horses participated in 52 performance and 90 production classes and events throughout the weekend. There were more than 1,400 entries shown by youth who qualified for the show.

Clearfield County individuals qualified at either the 2013 Regional 4-H Horse Production Show in Huntingdon on Aug. 1by receiving a first place blue merit or at the 2013 District VIII 4-H Horse Show in Brookville on Aug. 10^–11 by placing first or second in their class, and in some classes, third place depending on the state quota.

The state show is the final competition of the year for 4-H horse members enrolled in performance and production horse projects. To be eligible for the show, members must advance through qualifying competitions at county, regional and district levels.

Events include breed conformation and futurity classes for horses 5 years old and younger in the production division. The performance division includes showmanship, horsemanship, equitation, pleasure, over fences, driving, western riding, reining, trail and timed events. A therapeutic riding division for riders with special needs is also included. Results and photos from the show are available on the Pennsylvania 4-H Horse Program Web site.

All performance champions in the show were awarded leather items with engraved plates donated by Perri’s Leather of Lincoln University. Performance winners received champion ribbons and pewter plates and production champions received champion ribbons and engraved photo plates.

All exhibitors in the therapeutic riding division received medallions donated by Hoy’s Trophies and Awards of Export. Several sponsors donated items for the silent auction with proceeds to benefit the 4-H horse program. Show management and participants appreciate the continued support and generous donations from Perri’s Leather and contributions from all show sponsors.

2013 Clearfield County results are as follows:

• Michaela Barber of Brookville was a participant in Western Grooming & Showmanship – Senior Rider with her horse, FP Zippos Image. She finished in third place in the Palomino 3-year-old Gelding with her horse, Nvest N D Lite Buttr. Also, she finished in second place in Palomino Yearling Filly with her horse, Lucy’s Golden Legacy
• Brooke Ell of DuBois was a participant in Pole Bending Ponies with her pony, Tayha. She finished in 10^th place in Clover Leaf Barrel Race Ponies with her pony, Tayha. She also finished in fifth place in Raised Box Keyhole Ponies with Tayha.
• Chelsea Folmar of Luthersburg was a participant in Pleasure Horse Driving with her horse, PSU Hollywood Kuel. She finished in seventh place in Western Riding with PSU Hollywood Kuel.
• Bradion Frantz of Luthersburg finished in fourth place in Clover Leaf Barrel Race Ponies with his pony, Tatiana Sasha. Also, he finished first in Raised Box Keyhole Ponies with Tatiana Sasha.
• Dustan Frantz of Reynoldsville was a participant in Clover Leaf Barrel Race Horses – Junior Rider with his horse, Sable.
• Susie Fry of Duncansville was a participant in Pole Bending Ponies with her pony, My Sweet Illusion.
• Alexes Hannold of Luthersburg finished in third place in Paint Three Year Old Filly with her horse, Hobby Chasin Cars.
• Kyrsten Kowalczyk of Flinton finished in 10^th place in Low Working Hunter Poines with her pony, Ranger Justa Dune. Also, she finished in fifth place in Miniature Horse 2-year-old Gelding with Maple Woods Struck By Design and in seventh place in Miniature Horse Filly of this Year with Maple Woods Lil Miss Independence.
• Sydney Lumadue of Fallentimber finished in sixth place in Raised Box Keyhole Horses – Junior Rider with her horse, Rising Star Nocona. She also finished in third place in Miniature Horse Filly of this Year with Maple Woods Twinkling Jewel and in second place in Miniature Horse 2-year-old Filly with Maple Woods Eternal Flame.
• Katelyn Matthews of Glasgow was a participant in Open Trail Horses – Senior Rider; English Grooming & Showmanship – Senior; Classic Hunter Under Saddle Horses – Senior Rider; Working Hunter Horses; and Hunter Hack Horses with her horse, Mables Lad. She finished in seventh place in Hunt Seat Equitation Over Fences – Senior Rider.
• Alex Russell of Grampian finished in seventh place in Pole Bending Ponies with his pony, Booger.
• Katie Russell of Grampian finished in sixth place in Pole Bending Horses – Senior Rider with her horse, Black Jack Drifter. Also, she finished in second place in Raised Box Keyhole Horses – Senior Rider, with her horse, Black Jack Drifter.
• Alexandra Schultz of Clearfield was a participant in Hunt Seat Equitation on the Flat – Junior Rider with her pony, Romeo’s Juliette.
• Raylene Simmers of Fallentimber finished in seventh place in Miniature Horse Yearling Fillies with Maple Woods Lil Cover Girl.
• Brooke Smeal of Coalport finished in third place in Western Pleasure Ponies with her pony, I’m A Daydreamer.
• Abigail Stanton of Ramey finished in second place in Miniature Horse Filly of this year with Maple Woods Easter Bonnet.
• Lindsey Swisher of Clearfield was a participant in Western Horsemanship – Junior Rider with her horse, MM Catmando.
• Molly Wise of Brockway finished in sixth place in English Grooming & Showmanship – Junior with her horse, Ima Classy Sonny. Also, she finished in ninth place in Classic Hunter Under Saddle Horses – Junior Rider with her horse Ima Classy Sonny. She was a participant in Hunt Seat Equitation on the Flat – Junior Rider with her horse, Ima Classy Sonny.

On Oct. 26, additional awards were given to 4-H members and 4-H clubs for participation in the Equine Educational Display Contest, Good Housekeeping, Completion of Level 3 & 4 Pennsylvania 4-H Horsemanship Skills, Pennsylvania 4-H Team Horse Power, and Pennsylvania Outstanding 4-H Horse Member Finalists.  Clearfield County’s Fran McAninch of DuBois and Chelsea Folmar of Luthersburg were recognized for their involvement in Pennsylvania 4-H Team Horse Power.  Folmar was also named the 2013 Pennsylvania Outstanding 4-H Horse Member.
