CRC Announces Holiday Promotions, Events
CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Revitalization Corp. (CRC) has announced its holiday promotion series: Shop Clearfield for Christmas.
The CRC has introduced new opportunities this year to promote shopping local. The promotion will kick-off with the “12 Days of Clearfield for Christmas.” This Facebook promotion will showcase a variety of items that can be purchased locally for anyone on your list. The promotion will run Nov. 25 through Dec. 6 on the CRC’s Facebook Page.
Man Pleads Guilty to Possessing Heroin
CLEARFIELD – A Philipsburg man pleaded guilty to possessing heroin in Clearfield County Court.
Jefferson G. Hahn, 55, 1013 Hills St., Philipsburg, an inmate of the jail, pleaded guilty to nine counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and two counts of possession of a controlled substance. He was sentenced by Judge Paul Cherry to nine month to two years in state prison. He was fined $12 plus costs. Due to the felony charges, he must submit to DNA testing at a cost of $250.
Woman Pleads Guilty to Drug Charges
CLEARFIELD – A Brockway woman pleaded guilty to drug charges during plea and sentencing court in Clearfield County.
Rebecca Jo Veltri, 25, 5252 Westville Rd., Brockway, an inmate of the jail, pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance, false identification to law enforcement and flight to avoid apprehension/trial/punishment. The charges stem from an incident in Curwensville on Sept. 21 when she and a man were found unconscious in a vehicle parked at Snappy’s convenience store.
Governor Corbett Signs Comprehensive Transportation Legislation
POTTERS MILLS – Gov. Tom Corbett today signed into law House Bill 1060,Pennsylvania’s most comprehensive piece of state transportation legislation in decades.
The transportation package will keep Pennsylvania safe and economically competitive by investing an additional $2.3 to $2.4 billion into the state’s roads and bridges by the fifth year of the plan and providing funding for transit systems across the state.
NWS Issues Winter Storm Warning
STATE COLLEGE – The National Weather Service of State College has issued an urgent winter weather message about a storm to impact pre-Thanksgiving holiday travel.
The Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 7 a.m. Tuesday until 1 p.m. Wednesday. For this target area, it is in effect for Potter, Elk, Cameron and Clearfield counties, including the cities of Coudersport, St. Marys, Ridgway, Emporium, DuBois and Clearfield.
CCCD’s Receives DEP Evaluation
CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Conservation District’s Erosion and Sedimentation Division was recently evaluated by the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).
The multi-day assessment included a detailed review of completed projects. Each project was reviewed for level of efficiency in field work, procedure, comprehension of regulations and timeliness.
Pennsylvania Motorists Urged to Use Caution with Winter Weather, Heavier Holiday Traffic
HARRISBURG – With winter weather affecting much of Pennsylvania and the Thanksgiving travel period under way, PennDOT today urged motorists to use caution and allow extra time to reach their destinations.
County Proposes Budget Without Tax Increase
CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Commissioners voted, 3-0, to adopt its preliminary 2014 budget without any property tax increase at yesterday’s regular meeting.
The county’s property taxes will remain at 18.5 mills, reported Commissioner Joan Robinson-McMillen, chair. She added the budget was balanced and anticipated general fund revenues and expenditures in the amount of $21,151,405.
Taxpayer Accuses County of “Improper” Private Tax Sales
CLEARFIELD – At yesterday’s Clearfield County Commissioner’s meeting, an area taxpayer, Roger McCall, accused the county of being “improper” in conducting its private tax sales.
Penelec Restores Service to 85 Percent of Customers Impacted by Winter Storm
ALTOONA – More than 170 workers from Pennsylvania Electric Company (Penelec), other FirstEnergy utilities, and electrical contractors continue to work to restore service following a winter storm that brought freezing rain, ice, wind and snow to Penelec’s 31-county Pennsylvania service area this week. As of noon today, service has been restored to approximately 13,700 Penelec customers – approximately 85 percent of the customers impacted by the storm.
“Operation Gobble Up” Suspects Appear for Hearings
CLEARFIELD – Ten of the 13 drug suspects who were arrested last week as part of “Operation Gobble Up” appeared Wednesday for preliminary hearings before Magisterial District Judge Richard Ireland during Centralized Court at the Clearfield County Jail.
County Tables Paying Allocation to ATA
CLEARFIELD – At this week’s meeting, the Clearfield County Commissioners voted, 2-1, to table paying its allocation of $118,670 to the Area Transportation Authority (ATA).
Commissioners Joan Robinson-McMillen, chair, and John A. Sobel voted in favor of tabling the matter until next month. Commissioner Mark B. McCracken opposed doing so.
Man Waives Hearing in Assault Case
CLEARFIELD – A Maryland man accused of beating an area woman and putting a knife to her throat waived his right to a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Richard Ireland during Centralized Court on Wednesday at the Clearfield County Jail.
