Samuel A. Monella, 87, of DuBois died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013 at the DuBois Nursing Home.
Born Dec. 26, 1925 in Barnesboro, he was the son of the late Carl and Angeline (Brancato) Monella. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in World War II.
On June 28, 1947, he married Grace (Montante) Monella. She survives.
He made his career as a salesman. He worked in retail for the Anheuser-Busch Company and the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company.
He was a member of the St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and being in the outdoors. He enjoyed woodworking and had a special love for all animals.
He is survived by his daughter, Carole Lawson and her husband, Terry of DuBois; a sister, Lillian Ponzi of DuBois; three grandchildren, Lee Ann Lovelace and her husband, Shawn of Greeley, Colo., Tara Deemer and her husband, Shawn of DuBois and Erin Freer and her husband, Daniel of Cochranton; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Samuel Monella Jr.; two brothers, Angelo Monella and Carl Monella Jr.; and one sister, Dorothy Monella.
Friends will be received from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Sunday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home.
A Scriptural Wake Service will be held at 12:45 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at the St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church with Msgr. Richard Siefer as celebrant.
Burial will be in St. Catherine Cemetery.
