DUBOIS – On Monday night, the DuBois City Council proposed its 2014 budget without any tax increase. Council scheduled a public hearing to discuss the budget for 6:45 p.m. Dec. 9, which is before its regular meeting.
“I can’t recall how many years it’s been without any new taxes,” said City Manager John “Herm” Suplizio. “But let’s call it a nice little Christmas gift for the City of DuBois.” Suplizio thanked department heads for making it possible with thorough individual budgets.
Council read preliminary budgets during the meeting. However, it was noted that some funds do not yet consider cash balances remaining after the 2013 year.
• General Fund – Revenue: $9,843,376; Expenditures: $9,306,376.48
• General Fund Capital – Revenue: $536,999.52; Expenditures: $537,000
• Sewer Fund – Revenue: $2,622,050; Expenditures: $3,020,000
• Water Fund – Revenue: $2,521,848; Expenditures: $3,020,000
• Highway Aid Funds – Revenue: $174,932; Expenditures, $174,932
In other business, council reviewed the salary for the city treasurer who also serves as the DuBois City tax collector. It will be set at $24,000 for 2014-2017 if it gains council’s approval.
The meeting ended with an executive session for personnel purposes. Council members Diane Bernardo and Jim Aughenbaugh were excused from the meeting.
