CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Area School District ended the 2012-13 school year with a $3.2 million surplus, reported Business Administrator Sam Maney at Monday’s combined committee and board meeting.
Prior to his report, Maney told board members he’d met with their auditors. Their auditors, he said, hadn’t proposed any adjustments, and he felt comfortable with reviewing the district’s financial situation with them for that reason.
According to him, when he put the district’s budget together, he anticipated having an ending balance of slightly more than $6.3 million to start the year. Further, he anticipated revenues in the amount of $31.4 million and expenditures of $33.2 million.
Corbett Calls for Action on Transportation Bill
HARRISBURG – Gov. Tom Corbett has urged the state House of Representatives to adopt a compromise transportation plan that will keep Pennsylvanians safe, keep Pennsylvania businesses competitive, create jobs and keep drivers and transit riders moving.
Small Games Legislation Benefits Businesses, Veterans Clubs, Says Gabler
HARRISBURG – A two-bill package of legislation that supports Pennsylvania’s charitable clubs, veterans’ organizations and small businesses through changes to the Small Games of Chance Act is now advancing in the General Assembly following House passage that included support from state Rep. Matt Gabler (R-Clearfield/Elk).
Sankey Backs Veterans, Local Businesses With Small Games Vote
HARRISBURG – State Rep. Tommy Sankey (R-Clearfield) joined a majority of his colleagues Monday in moving to the Senate House Bill 290, legislation which would assist Pennsylvania’s charitable clubs and veterans service organizations by increasing the types of small games of chance they would be allowed to offer, and expand opportunities for them to give back to their communities. The legislation would amend the Small Games of Chance Act and is part of a two-bill package that includes House Bill 1098, which is headed to the desk of Gov. Tom Corbett following passage by the General Assembly.

LT Supers Moving Forward on Sewage Project and New Fire Truck
CLEARFIELD – At last night’s meeting, the Lawrence Township Supervisors approved the their Sewage Corrective Action Plan proposed by engineers, Stiffler McGraw & Associates Inc. Supervisor Bill Lawhead explained the plan has four parts: Phase III sewage line project, televising (camera inspections) all units in the Phase III project, conducting physical inspections of all units and camera inspections of all previously inspected laterals.
Police Warn Residents of Scams
CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Borough police have received complaints about company representatives contacting area residents and wanting to install medical alert systems.
Police have found that residents age 60 or older are being targeted by the company. Further, they have found elderly women who live alone to especially be a target for this company, which sells “bogus products and services.”
Local Police Receive DUI Training
CURWENSVILLE – Local police are wrapping up a three-day driving under the influence of alcohol training in Curwensville today.
The officers are receiving instruction in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing by the Institute for Law Enforcement Education. The training will be complete just before the start of the annual Operation Safe Holiday enforcement period.
Transportation Infrastructure Funding Bill Passes Senate
HARRISBURG – Yesterday, the Senate approved for the second time, a comprehensive transportation bill that will provide additional funding to Pennsylvania’s deteriorating transportation system. The proposal will increase Pennsylvania’s annual transportation investment by $2.4 billion.
Woman Accused of Attempting to Assault Boyfriend with Hammer Waives Hearing
CLEARFIELD – A 46-year-old Morann woman accused of attempting to strike her boyfriend with a hammer waived her right to a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Richard Ireland during Centralized Court on Wednesday at the Clearfield County Jail.
Lisa Irene Mick, 46, of Morann has been charged with terroristic threats, simple assault and harassment. Her bail was modified to $10,000 unsecured at her preliminary hearing.
WJAC-TV: Trooper-involved Shooting Under Investigation
SNOW SHOE – A Pennsylvania State Police Trooper was involved in a shooting earlier this morning along Interstate 80 in Centre County, according to GantDaily.com news partner WJAC-TV.
The investigation scene is along I-80 eastbound and approximately one mile before the Snow Shoe service plaza near mile-marker 146. State police first responded to the area at approximately 7 a.m., officials said.
DA: 13 Alleged Drug Dealers Arrested in “Operation Gobble Up”
CLEARFIELD – After months of investigation, 13 alleged drug dealers have been taken into custody as a result of “Operation Gobble Up,” announced Clearfield County District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr. at a news conference this morning at the Clearfield 911 Center.
Governor Corbett Hails Final Vote on Transportation Legislation
HARRISBURG – Gov. Tom Corbett joined PennDOT Secretary Barry J. Schoch, members of the state Senate and House of Representatives and other officials last night to discuss the final affirmative vote on an historic comprehensive transportation plan — the most comprehensive piece of state transportation legislation — in decades.
Clearfield Borough Proposes Budget Without Millage Increase
CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Borough Council approved to advertise and publicly display the proposed 2014 budget, and to advertise Ordinance No. 1333 fixing the tax rate at 25 mils for fiscal year 2014. It was noted that the millage will remain the same, with no increase.
