Jean Lynette Waylonis, 60, a resident of DuBois died Monday, Nov. 18, 2013 at home.
Born March 9, 1953, in Brookville, she was the daughter of the late Leslie Gray and Lillian (Burfield) Gray Bryant.
She is survived by her husband, Anthony John Waylonis, to whom she married on June 16, 1973.
She is survived by her two children, Anthony James Waylonis and his wife, Shawna of Washington, D.C. and Ellen Claire (Waylonis) May and her husband, Roger of Boston, Mass.; her sisters, Sharon Holland of Erie, Carol Lundberg of Brookville and Barbara Gray of Hawaii; and by her brother, Richard Gray of Columbia, S.C.
She was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in DuBois.
She graduated from Fairview High School in 1971, got her Bachelor’s degree in education and human development from Penn State in 1975 and her Master’s degree in education and human development from George Washington University in 1999.
She retired having spent the majority of her professional life as a pre-school and special education teacher. She helped establish the Family and Childhood Education Program/Head Start at Belvedere Elementary School in Falls Church, VA, and later was a Head Start teacher in Penfield, where her patience, nurturing, encouragement, and boundless love made a difference to countless children and their families. She remembered every child and family she ever helped, and through them touched more lives than she could possibly know.
She enjoyed knitting and quilting, swimming and was a beloved member of the Red Hat Society. She loved to travel, but most of all, she loved her family and friends.
A Scriptural Wake Service will be held at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church with Msgr. Richard Siefer as celebrant.
Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hahne Cancer Center or DuBois Regional Medical Center Hospice, both located at 100 Hospital Ave., DuBois, PA 15801.
