Richard “Dick” Dixon, 78, of Clearfield went to be with his Lord on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013 at his home. He was the husband of 58 years to Carroll (Luzier) Dixon, Clearfield.
Born March 21, 1935, he was the son of the late George Henry and Ida Mae (Baney) Dixon.
Mr. Dixon was employed as a mason for more than 60 years. He started as a mason with his future father-in-law, Dorse L. Luzier, and later with Vance Dickey and Jimmy Collins.
He was a member of Clearfield Alliance Church, the B.P.O E. No. 540 and the VFW Post No. 1785. He was a member of the picnic grounds committee for the VFW. He built the Veterans Wall at the picnic grounds and worked on the Bison Wall next to the Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library. He was known for his masonry work throughout the Clearfield and DuBois areas. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and going to camp with his family.
In addition to his wife, surviving are two daughters and a son, Debra J. Kelly and her husband, Randolph of Palmyra, Shari Trythall and her husband, Bob of Curwensville and Spence R. Dixon and his wife, Brianna of Lebanon; five grandchildren, Ryan Kelly, Ash Kelly, David Trythall, Aaron Trythall and Michelle Dixon; six great-grandchildren, Rhett, Cora, Josiah, Owen, Jeremiah and Elias Kelly. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five sisters and a brother, Marion Walker, Jean Leigey, Edna Whitesell, Hope Dallen, Gladys Rollin and Kyle Dixon.
A funeral service to celebrate the life of Richard “Dick” Dixon will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Bennett and Houser Funeral Home Inc., 312 E. Locust St., Clearfield, with the Rev. Robert Goldenberg and the Rev. Hiram B. Westover co-officiating. A time to share memories and have an opportunity to view will be held from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. Monday and from 12 p.m. until the time of services at the funeral home. A private burial will be in Bradford Cemetery, Woodland.
