Catherine (Katy) Mandel, 92, of Philipsburg, died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013 at the DuBois Regional Medical Center in DuBois.
She was the daughter of the late Jacob and Mary (Schulic) Mandel, born July 11, 1921 in Philipsburg. She married Edward L. Tubo on July 2, 1963. He preceded her in death on April 14, 2003.
Ms. Mandel was a member of the St. Vladimir’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Smithmill, PA and attended Saint John the Baptist Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Dixonville. She had been employed with Charles Navasky & Co. for 48 years until retiring. She had been a member of the Amalgamated Union of Clothing Workers during the same time period. She was a 1937 graduate of the Philipsburg High School.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Nick and Raymond Mandel and an infant brother, Carl Mandel; a sister, Evelyn Mandel; and two godchildren, Carl and Norma Mandel.
Ms. Mandel is survived by a sister, Mary E. (Betty) Evans of Gearhartville, Philipsburg, and a brother, John Mandel and his wife, Ann of Philipsburg. She is also survived by two godchildren, Eve Evans of Philipsburg and Michael Evans of Clearfield; a sister-in-law, Mary Jo Mandel of Pleasant Hill, Philipsburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, 719 E. Spruce St., Philipsburg, with Father George Hnatko officiating. The burial service will take place at St. John the Baptist Orthodox Cemetery in Chester Hill.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Wednesday and on from 10 a.m. until the time of services Thursday at the funeral Home.
