Minor injuries were reported after a single-vehicle accident Friday on the Port Matilda Highway in Rush Township. Mark E. Shiflett, 27, of Winburne, was traveling east when he was negotiating a left-hand curve in the roadway. He lost control of his vehicle and traveled across the left lane before exiting the north berm and striking an embankment. His vehicle struck the embankment again and overturned, at which point it slid and spun while on its roof. His vehicle came to a final rest on its roof, blocking the eastbound lane and facing south. Shiflett was transported to the Mount Nittany Medical Center for treatment; he was cited for the accident.
An alcohol-related accident occurred Saturday on the Port Matilda Highway in Rush Township. Further, a 20-year-old DuBois man was traveling west when he failed to negotiate a left-hand curve and crossed into the eastbound lane. His vehicle struck a mailbox, a rock/stone retaining wall, a wooden fence, a shrub, a fire hydrant and a large tree. His vehicle came to a final rest on its passenger’s side. Further investigation revalued that the man was under the influence of alcohol. He was taken into custody for DUI and transported to the Mount Nittany Medical Center for blood testing. Charges are currently pending blood test results.
A hit-and-run accident occurred Saturday on South Front Street in Philipsburg Borough. An operator was traveling south when their vehicle exited the roadway and struck a 2012 Nissan Altima, which was legally parked. Upon impact, the Altima was pushed approximately 25 feet and onto the sidewalk. The operator fled the scene and headed south on state Route 53 toward Chester Hill. Witnesses described the vehicle as an older Ford pick-up truck that was dark in color with Ford spelled out in white letters across the tailgate. It would have substantial damage to its right front corner area and will be missing a headlight. The investigation is continuing into an incident of retail theft that occurred Oct. 26 on North Front Street in Philipsburg Borough. During the incident, a known suspect entered the Dollar General Store and stole numerous pieces of merchandise.
An incident of retail theft occurred sometime Oct. 22-26 at Conklin’s Corners on the Tyrone Pike in Rush Township. During the incident, someone broke into a display case and stole several items, which ranged from knives to key fobs.
