PHILIPSBURG – The Philipsburg-based state police have initiated an accident reduction effort.
In October, the Philipsburg barracks investigated 24 accidents. One of the primary causes, state police said, was driving too fast for road conditions; the other was distracted driving.
Cellular phone usage is limited to calls and GPS purposes. Text messaging, however, is prohibited and the primary violation among operators, according to the state police.
As a reminder, state police said seatbelts are required by law. This, state police said, is the primary violation of operators who are under 18 years old.
Operators are further reminded that inclement weather is approaching and to use extra caution when traveling. State police also suggested that operators allow extra time to reach their destination.
