DUBOIS – A revised proposal has been submitted to the DuBois Area School District in an effort to continue the School Resource Officer (SRO) program, according to DuBois City police.
The SRO program has been in place for 14 years. Sen. Joseph Scarnati recently praised the program in September and allocated funding for additional school safety, police said.
School board members have publically stated that they are in favor of the SRO program. However, board members voted, 5-4, against continuing the program and cited financial reasons for that decision.
Police said the revised SRO program proposal includes the presence of actively employed, uniformed police officers and marked police vehicles at the DuBois Area High and Middle Schools and Juniata Elementary, as well as at other school events. The revised proposal, police said, saves the district and taxpayers approximately $30,000 per year and also expands the SRO program.
