CLEARFIELD – An out-of-state man accused of stealing an area woman’s car, other valuables from her home and then attempting to and opening up accounts with her personal information waived his right to a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Richard Ireland during Centralized Court on Wednesday at the Clearfield County Jail.
Michael Shannon Bolding, 24, of Stafford, VA has been charged with theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, access device issued to another who didn’t authorize use, identity theft and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. Bolding is incarcerated at the CCJ in lieu of $100,000 bail.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, on Aug. 14, Bolding dropped the victim off at work at approximately 11:20 p.m. He was supposed to pick her up from work at 2 a.m. However, when she got off work he wasn’t there to pick her up.
Bolding told the victim that he was going to be late, and she started to walk home from work. After getting home, she realized Bolding wasn’t there. At that point, she attempted to get a hold of Bolding without any success. The victim called police when she realized several valuable items had been taken from her home and that Bolding still had her car.
Bolding, the affidavit alleges, took two Sanyo 42-inch televisions, a Dell Inspiron 15-inch laptop, a Kindle notepad, a Nintendo Wii and games, a Droid Razor M cellular phone, an AT&T Samsung Captivate Glide cellular phone, a Garmin GPS unit and a Suzuki Kizashi with Pennsylvania registration.
The victim discovered that Bolding had used her information in attempting to open up credit cards through Zales, Chase, Barclaycard Rewards, Capital One and AE Outfitters Inc. All attempts resulted in a rejection letter. Bolding applied for a First Premier Bank credit card, which was issued in both his and the victim’s name, the affidavit alleges.
Additionally, the victim discovered that Bolding got a Verizon Wireless account and obtained four Droid Razor M cellular phones and a Droid Incredible cellular phone with her information. Bolding was later stopped by the Virginia State Police. The victim’s car was recovered; however, the other stolen items were not.
