MILLERSVILLE — Grad student wide receiver Jesse Hoover (Curwensville) continued to move up the list of Lock Haven’s all-time pass reception leaders with six catches for 75 yards and what proved to be the winning touchdown in a 26-14 victory over Millersville (1-7) Saturday afternoon.
Hoover jumped from ninth place into a tie for seventh with his 114 career receptions.
Sophomore running back Beau Swales (Clearfield) contributed a team-high 93 all-purpose yards as the Bald Eagles snapped a 30-game road losing streak and spoiled Homecoming for the Biemesderfer Stadium crowd of 4,102 in their first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division clash.
Most of his total came on two kickoff returns for 85 yards, including a career-long 49-yarder moments after Millersville chopped Lock Haven’s lead to 13-7 late in the third quarter.
On the next play, Hoover hauled in a 37-yard TD aerial from redshirt freshman Caleb Walton, and Lock Haven was on its way to beating Millersville for the first time since 1959 for its third win, the most in nine seasons.
Swales caught one pass for six yards and netted two yards on four carries.
Kicker Alex Boumerhi (Philipsburg) helped give the Bald Eagles a 13-0 halftime lead with two fields goals, one a Lock Haven record 48-yarder.
Season stats show Hoover with a team-high 36 catches for 364 yards and two scores and Swales with 23 rushes for 54 yards and one TD, six receptions for 61 yards and 20 kickoff returns for a 22.2 average.

SMITHFIELD, R.I. — Grad student center Nick Redden (Clearfield) and the Duquesne (4-3) offense outgained host Bryant (4-4) 351-280 in total yards, but turnovers doomed the Dukes to a 42-14 loss in a key Northeast Conference tussle that attracted 3,761 fans to Bulldog Stadium Saturday afternoon.
The outcome left the two teams tied for first place at 2-1.

EDINBORO — Redshirt sophomore defensive back Derek Morgan (Clearfield) had two solo tackles and assisted on another stop as Slippery Rock (7-1) ran its winning streak to five and remained tied for first place in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division with a 44-20 victory over Edinboro (4-4) Saturday afternoon.
A crowd of 3,563 in Sox Harrison Stadium saw The Rock, which was ranked No. 22 the last week’s D2football.com national poll, set up a PSAC-West showdown with California this week. Both teams are 4-1.
Morgan, who has made two starts, has recorded 30 tackles, including 19 solo stops, with one interception and two pass break-ups.

CLARION — Sophomore long snapper Eric White (Clearfield) centered the ball for six extra point tries, one field goal and five punts in Clarion’s 41-2 romp over Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division newcomer Seton Hill (0-8) at Memorial Stadium Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles rewarded the majority of the 602 onlookers by evening their record at 4-4 and improving to 2-3 in the PSAC-West.
White has assisted on three tackles for the punt unit.

HUNTINGDON — Freshman defensive back and special teamer Jordan Russell (Curwensville) played in his fifth game for Juniata (4-3) in Saturday’s 27-7 loss to Muhlenberg (5-2) in front of 1,300 fans at Knox Stadium.
The Eagles fell to 3-3 and into a tie for fifth place in the Centennial Conference.
Russell has made two solo stops and assisted on five tackles with one pass break-up and one fumble recovery.
