William G. Shaffer, 83, of Tonawanda, NY died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013. He was born Oct. 18, 1930 in Ashland, a son of the late John and Ruth Shaffer.
Mr. Shaffer retired from the General Motors Plant in Tonawanda, NY in 1996 after 41 years of service. He enjoyed hunting, traveling and took great pride in caring for his vehicles. He also cherished his time with his family.
He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Leigey Renaud Post No. 8386, Frenchville. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He’s survived by his daughter, Kristina Marie Noworyta and her husband, Mark of Tonawanda, NY; two grandchildren, Sara Ann and Jeffrey William; three brothers, Lester and his wife, Julia, Joe and his wife, Lynn and Carl; a sister, Norma; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Ann (Dunlap) Shaffer on May 17, 2013. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Kenneth, Robert and Eugene.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Kevin A Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield, with the Rev. David A. Perry Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Frenchville.
Friends will be received from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until the hour of service Saturday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice Buffalo, 225 Como Park Blvd., Cheektowaga, NY 14227.
