ALTOONA – The Department of Environmental Protection-Bureau of Radiation Protection performed comprehensive inspections of patient care activities involving nuclear byproduct materials at four health system sites earlier this month.
The DEP determined the radiation safety of patients, employees and the public were met or exceeded.
There were no deficiencies, said Jared Hoover, radiation safety officer. At the hospital, state inspectors visited Radiation Oncology, where brachytherapy procedures are performed, and Nuclear Medicine Imaging.
At Station Medical Center, DEP-BRP visited Nuclear Medicine Imaging at UPMC Altoona and Blair Medical Associates Cardiology.
The hospital has had a license for more than 46 years, said Drew Appleman, supervisor of Nuclear Medicine.
