UNIVERSITY PARK — JoLynn Carney and Richard Hazler will present “Bullies and Bystanders: How to Prevent Harassment and Violence in Schools” at Penn State’s first Research Unplugged event of the fall semester on Oct. 10 at 12:30 p.m. in Schlow Centre Region Library, downtown State College. Faculty members and frequent collaborators in the College of Education’s counselor education program, Carney is associate professor and Hazler, professor and program coordinator.
Research Unplugged is in its 10th year of bringing together a broad range of Penn State researchers and the State College community for informal conversation.
Carney and Hazler received the American Counseling Association’s Research Award in 2012. The award recognized the “high quality and original research” behind their study titled “The Relations Between Bullying Exposures in Middle Childhood, Anxiety, and Adrenocortical Activity.” Their work investigates both the physical and psychological effects of exposure to bullying at school. They have reported their findings in numerous professional publications, including the Journal of Humanistic Counseling and Journal of School Violence.
Research Unplugged events will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Thursdays through November 14, and are free and open to the public, with complimentary light refreshments. Limited free parking is available at Schlow Library beginning at 11:45 a.m.
