Washington, DC, United States (4E) – The House has passed a new stopgap spending bill with a rider delaying Obamacare for a year and denying the president, vice president, lawmakers and Capitol and White House staffs federal subsidies for health insurance.
Demolition to Begin at Colonial Courtyard at Clearfield
CLEARFIELD – Colonial Courtyard at Clearfield will begin its demolition process today, announced Commissioner Joan Robinson-McMillen, chair, at Tuesday’s workshop meeting of the Clearfield County Commissioners.
U.S. Government Starts Shutting Down

Washington, DC, United States (4E) – Federal offices started shutting down Tuesday after Congress failed to pass a budget for the new fiscal year.
Government agencies told workers to stay home while others came to office to sign furlough papers and help shut it down, including turning their voicemail and email to “out-of-office” mode. Up to 800,000 federal employees, except essential staffs, are getting furloughed, including those at the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Census Bureau, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Department of Commerce, Department of Education, Department of Energy, Department of Health and Human Services, Environmental Protection Agency, Federal Aviation Administration, Federal Communications Commission, Food and Drug Administration and Internal Revenue Service.
Bills Funding DC, VA, Parks Fail in House; Vets Force Way into Closed Memorial

Washington, DC, United States (4E) – House Republicans tried to pass separate resolutions funding the D.C. government, Veterans Affairs and national parks on Tuesday but failed to get enough votes.
The resolutions were proposed to ease the impact of the government shutdown that started Tuesday after the Senate rejected a second House-passed continuing resolution on Monday for having a provision delaying the implementation of the Affordable Care Act and amending parts of it.
County Approves Resolution Setting Compensation, Expenses of DuBois City Treasurer
CLEARFIELD – Yesterday, the Clearfield County Commissioners approved a resolution to set the compensation and expenses of the DuBois City Treasurer for the collection of city, county and DuBois Area School District taxes for the next four-year cycle.

A three-judge Superior Court panel ruled Wednesday, barely two weeks after hearing oral arguments by a state prosecutor and lawyers for the former Penn State assistant football coach.

LT Supers Accept Resignation of Code Enforcement Officer
CLEARFIELD – After adjourning for a brief executive session at last night’s meeting, the Lawrence Township Supervisors accepted the resignation of Code Enforcement Officer Pearce Yost.
The supervisors approved to advertise for applications for the position of code enforcement officer, and approved to hire Agatha Lauder-English to fill in as needed until the position is filled, and to train the new hire, at a rate of $15 per hour.
Kephart Gets Prison for Check-kiting Scheme
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Timothy Kephart, 54, of Morrisdale and the chief executive officer of Dart Trucking, was sentenced yesterday to 46 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Dan Aaron Polster in relation to a $3.6 million check-kiting scheme against Huntington Bank, according to Michael Tobin, public information officer for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio.
Accused Cemetery Vandals Appear for Hearings
CLEARFIELD – The three vandals accused of knocking over dozens of gravestones at Hillcrest Cemetery last month appeared for preliminary hearings before Magisterial District Judge James Hawkins during Centralized Court on Wednesday at the Clearfield County Jail.
Man Accused of Impersonating Federal Agent, Swindling Money Waives Hearings
CLEARFIELD – A West Decatur man accused of impersonating a federal agent and then swindling people out of money waived his right to preliminary hearings in three, different cases before Magisterial District Judge James Hawkins during Centralized Court on Wednesday at the Clearfield County Jail.
In one case, Richard Allen Gilbert, 47, of West Decatur has been charged with impersonating a public servant; theft by unlawful taking; theft by deception/false impression; possession of firearms prohibited; disorderly conduct; and driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked. He’s also charged with impersonating a public servant and theft by deception/false impression in two, other cases.

CLEARFIELD – A Philadelphia woman accused of passing off a cookie bag containing balloons of marijuana to an inmate at the State Correctional Institution at Houtzdale waived her right to a preliminary hearing during Centralized Court on Wednesday at the Clearfield County Jail.
Campus Men Wear Red Pumps to ‘Walk a Mile in Her Shoes’
DUBOIS – It was an unusual sight at Penn State DuBois on Wednesday as more than two dozen male students walked together around campus wearing red high heels. The walk also took them off campus, and down Liberty Boulevard, as women showing their support to the cause walked alongside the guys to cheer them on.
