Dorothy P. Carbalan, 97, of Clearfield died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013 at The Fairway, State College.
She was born in 1916 in Clearfield, the daughter of the late Carl Leonard and Agnes E. (Halverson) Peterson. She graduated from the Clearfield Area High School and the Strayer Business College, Washington, D.C.
She had been employed with the U.S. Treasury Department, the American Red Cross, the Smithsonian Institution, all in Washington, D.C., and retired as the Clearfield Borough secretary after 33 years.
She was a member of the West Side United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Sunday School Class No. 7, and she served many years on the church’s administrative board as secretary.
She was member of Clear-Penn Chapter of Professional Secretaries Association (AIIP). She was a former volunteer with Clearfield Historical Society, Clearfield Senior Center, Clearfield/Centre County Borough’s Association, Clearfield Hospital and the Blood Mobile.
She’s survived by a son, Frank L. Carbalan and his wife, Joan of Boalsburg, two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many cousins in New York, New Jersey and Sweden.
She was the last member of her generation and preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Leonard E. Peterson.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the West Side United Methodist Church, 317 Nichols St., Clearfield, with the Rev. Dr. Joleen A. Willis officiating. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until the hour of services Tuesday at the church.
