MILLERSVILLE — Redshirt freshman quarterback Curtis Frye (Clearfield) recorded his first collegiate touchdown pass for Millersville’s lone six-pointer in a 48-10 loss to Shippensburg in front of 2,805 fans at Biemesderfer Stadium Saturday afternoon.
Dominic Sanders turned Frye’s quick pass into a 30-yard score early in the fourth quarter of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division game.
Frye came off the bench to complete eight of 12 aerials for 86 yards. He was sacked three times.
Frye has seen significant time as the Millersville (0-4, 0-2 PSAC-East) signal-caller in two games with 14 completions in 21 pass attempts for 181 yards and a pass efficiency rating of 154.78.

SLIPPERY ROCK — Redshirt sophomore defensive back Derek Morgan (Clearfield) was involved in six tackles, including three solo stops, as Slippery Rock (3-1) rolled to a 58-34 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division win over Mercyhurst (1-3) at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium Saturday evening.
A partisan crowd of 5,174 saw The Rock level its PSAC-West record at 1-1.
Morgan’s 13 solo tackles are fourth on The Rock defense and his total of 21 tackles are fifth. He has made one tackle for a loss of four yards and broken up one pass.

BLOOMSBURG — Graduate student wide receiver Jesse Hoover (Curwensville) had a game-high five pass receptions for 49 yards while sophomore running back Beau Swales (Clearfield) rushed five times for five yards and averaged 23.9 yards on seven kickoff returns for Lock Haven (2-2) in Saturday’s 56-10 defeat by Bloomsburg (4-0) with 2,428 looking on at Redman Stadium.
The Bald Eagles slipped to 1-1 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division. The Huskies, ranked No. 11 in NCAA Division II, are co-leaders at 2-0.
Hoover leads Lock Haven with 21 catches, tied for 13th in the PSAC, for 217 yards and one touchdown. He also has assisted on one tackle.
Swales has gained 18 yards on eight rushes and 12 yards on two receptions. His average for 13 kickoff runbacks is 19.8.

LANCASTER — Freshman Jordan Russell (Curwensville) switched from wide receiver on offense to the secondary on defense last week for Juniata (3-1) and made one solo tackle, assisted on another and broke up one pass in a 46-16 loss to homestanding Franklin & Marshall (2-2) at Sponaugle-Williamson Stadium Saturday afternoon.
A turnout of 2,137 fans saw the streak-ending loss that left both teams 2-1 in the Centennial Conference.
Russell has appeared in three games with four tackles and one fumble recovery.

CLARION — For the third game in a row, sophomore long snapper Eric White (Clearfield) made the first hit on a Clarion punt, but Gannon spoiled Homecoming for the previously-unbeaten Golden Eagles Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Knights disappointed the Memorial Stadium crowd of 5,326 with a 45-25 victory in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division clash that was produced by Sportsfever TV Productions for airing on ROOT Sports Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Both teams are 3-1, with Gannon 2-0 and Clarion 1-1 in the PSAC-West.

CHESTER — Junior kicker Zach Fannin (Clearfield) averaged 48 yards on five kickoffs for visiting Lycoming (3-1) in a 16-14 upset of No. 24-ranked Widener (2-2) in front of 2,135 fans at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium Saturday afternoon.
Senior Zack Czap (Philipsburg/Philipsburg-Osceola Area H.S.) nailed a 33-yard field goal, his third of the game, with 2:24 remaining to give the Warriors a share of first place in the Middle Atlantic Conference with Delaware Valley at 3-0.
Czap, who also averaged 38.4 yards on seven punts to protect field position for the Warriors, was named MAC Special Teams Player of the Week for a school-record seventh time.
Junior quarterback Tyler Jenny (Coalport/Glendale Area H.S.) accounted for the lone Lycoming touchdown with a 33-yard pass. He completed 18 of 29 passes for 176 yards.
Fannin earned the kickoff job for the Warriors by averaging 54 yards on five kicks against Misericordia Oct. 21.

WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
LORETTO — Freshman Rebecca Johnson (Grampian/Curwensville Area H.S.) was the fourth St. Francis runner to cross the finish line in helping the Red Flash place eighth in the 10-team field at the seventh annual Father Bede Hines Invitational Saturday.
She placed 43rd overall in the 5,000-meter race.
