Stella Jedrziewski Wawrynovic, 95, of Clearfield died Friday, Sept. 27, 2013.
She was born Aug. 7, 1918 in Osceola Mills, a daughter of the late Stanley and Mary (Rahocki) Jedrziewski and the third of ten siblings. She was a graduate of Osceola Mills High School in the class of 1936.
She was a registered nurse after graduating from the Thomas Jefferson University School of Nursing in Philadelphia, where she continued to work until 1949. During World War II, she served in the U.S. Army Nurse Corp. She and her husband, Frank, owned and operated Utilities Forestry Service Inc. in Clearfield from July 10, 1968 until retirement in 1997.
She was a member of the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield, the Catholic Daughters of America Clearfield Court and the Rosary and Altar Society. She was also a member of the Jefferson Nurses’ Alumni Association of Philadelphia and the Clearfield American Legion Post No. 6. She was active with the Easter Seal Society of Clearfield County.
She is survived by one brother, Edward Jedrziewski and his wife, Patricia of Alexandria, VA and two sisters, Helen Prall and her husband, Stanley of Satellite Beach, Fla. and Genevieve Williams and her husband, Dr. Melvin C. of Indiana. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Wawrynovic was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Wawrynovic on Feb. 9, 2005 and all three of her children, John Francis, Barbara Jean and an infant son, Peter. She was also preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Anthony, Chester, Charles and Stanley Jedrziewski; and two sisters, Irene Sebring and Alfreda Murphy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield, with Msgr. H. Desmond McGee, Jr. and Father Robert J. Horgas as co-celebrants. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Osceola Mills.
The Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church. In accordance to Mrs. Wawrynovic’s wishes, there will be no public visitation.
The Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield, is in charge of arrangements.
