R. Virginia (Stiles) Twigg, 95, of Smokerun died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013 at her residence. She was born July 19, 1918, in Gulich Township, a daughter of the late Thomas D. and Eleanor C. (Hartline) Stiles.
She graduated from the former Beccaria Township High School in 1936. She was a life-long member of the Smokerun United Methodist Church.
On July 30, 1940 at Winchester, VA she married William “Jack” Twigg Jr. He preceded her in death on May 4, 1992.
Mrs. Twigg was a homemaker and along with her late husband, the owner and operator of Twigg’s General Store, Smokerun, from 1955 until 2005.
She enjoyed gardening and working with her flowers and especially enjoyed working in her store and her customers.
She was a member of the Tyrone Chapter of the Eastern Star and was a past member of the Mt. Pleasant Grange
She’s survived by three sons and a daughter, William Twigg and his wife, Beverly, Arthur “Jack” Twigg and his wife, Carol and Cathy Lebda and her husband, John, all of Smokerun and Roger Twigg and his wife, Nadine of Madera.
She’s also survived by 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, a sister, Lillian Zimmerman of Johnstown and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Twigg was preceded in death by five brothers, Russell, Monroe, Stacy, Arthur and Kenneth Stiles; four sisters, Thelma Shimmel, Olean Glosek, Mary Glasgow and Elaine Turnbull; and two infant siblings.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. Monday at the Kruise Funeral Home Inc., Madera.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Kruise Funeral Home Inc., Madera, with Mrs. Twigg’s nephew, the Rev. James Morris officiating.
Graveside Services will follow in the Hegarty’s Crossroads Cemetery, Beccaria Township.
Memorial donations may be made to the Clearfield Hospital Hospice or to the Clearfield County Meals on Wheels Program.
