HARRISBURG – Yesterday, a collection of business and labor leaders urged legislators to quickly pass a transportation funding bill, said state Sen. John Wozniak (D-Johnstown).
“It can be overwhelming to hear the negative effects on Pennsylvania if comprehensive transportation funding is not passed soon,” Wozniak said. “I share the same concern as these leaders do, and I urge the House of Representatives to act quickly on Senate Bill 1.”
At yesterday’s conference, former Pennsylvania Senate Transportation Chairman Rob Wonderling and a number of other speakers cited safety and economic concerns as the main reasons to immediately pass the bill.
“The speakers represented 5,000 member organizations and about 175,000 employees,” Wozniak said. “They called for political courage from House members on the issue of transportation and discussed the impact transportation funding has on jobs across Pennsylvania.”
The bill was approved by the Senate in a bipartisan vote of 45 to 5 in June.
“Hopefully transportation will be adequately funded soon,” said Wozniak. “This is long overdue.”
