W. Richard Newton, 83, of Clearfield died Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013 at the Mountain Laurel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield.
He was born Aug. 9, 1930 in Philipsburg, a son of the late John W. and Maude Ida (Baer) Newton.
A welder for 45 years, Mr. Newton retired from Avery Coal Company after 18 years of service. He then was employed at the former Thorns Neighborhood Market.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Clearfield, and the Clearfield American Legion John Lewis Shade Post No. 6.
He also volunteered at the St. Francis School.
A veteran of the U. S. Army, he served during the Korean War and also with the U.S. Army Reserves.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ann J. (Loverso) Newton, whom he wed Sept. 5, 1953 in Coalport; two children, Barb Dettore and her husband, Dave of DuBois and John Newton and hhis wife, Deborah of Canonsburg; two granddaughters, Jessica Laing and her husband, Matthew and Jennifer Pisarcik and her husband, Mark; and a great-granddaughter, Paisley Pisarcik.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two infant daughters, Shirley Ann and Debbie Ann; a brother, James W. Newton; and four infant brothers.
Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family at the Kevin A Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield, with Msgr. Henry L. Krebs officiating. Burial will follow in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.
Military honors will be accorded at cemetery by the members of the Clearfield American Legion and VFW Posts Honor Guard.
