James L. Smeal, 77, of Philipsburg died Friday, Sept. 13, 2013 at the Valley View Health & Rehabilitation Center, Altoona.
Born July 2, 1936 in Erie, he was the son of the late Harold L. and Edna (Royer) Smeal. On Jan. 5, 1957 at Morgan Run, he married Patricia (Merrell) Smeal, whom died Feb. 28, 1989.
He is survived by three daughters, Terry Jeffries, Wendy Koguc and her husband, Tony of and Penny Shaw, all of Philipsburg and a sister, Sherry Ralston and her husband, Steve of Morgan Run.
Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Jamie Pinto, April Robb, Misty Quick, Craig Bainey, Gary Quick, Mandy Schaffer, Regina Shaw and Christine Shaw; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Mr. Smeal was a member of the Ohio United Methodist Church in Morgan Run. He was a graduate of the Philipsburg High School and worked for various businesses throughout his life. He enjoyed bowling, playing horseshoes and was an avid sports fan.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the David K. Dahlgren Funeral Home, 228 N. Centre St., Philipsburg, with Pastor Jennifer Heikes officiating. Burial will be at Baughman Cemetery, Sanborn.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
