CLEARFIELD – As September is National Senior Center Month, managers at Centers for Active Living in Clearfield County want to let the public know who we are, what we do and what’s available to them. Since older Americans are much more active and involved than 20 years ago, they will find interesting and involving activities offered by their local Centers.
While senior centers still offer simple comforts, like warm meals and socialization, they’ve become much more than a meal site. Managers focus on keeping seniors active and involved by offering different types of exercise programs, holding activities to promote healthy brains, encouraging individual and group involvement in the community and promoting volunteer opportunities, all in a family-like setting.
You can come to one of the Centers for Active Living in Clearfield County and help celebrate the national theme of Experts at Living Well. Here are some of the special activities scheduled for this month:
Clearfield Center:
Sept. 11 – There will be a presentation on Happiness Happens at the Center by Health South Nittany Rehab.
Sept. 18 – The importance of Exercise and Home Safety is a presentation by the Mountain Laurel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, regarding fall prevention and awareness.
Sept. 19 – Celebrating Senior Centers is an open house sponsored by Home Helpers, with refreshments, music and trivia games.
Karthaus Center:
Sept. 11 – Celebration luncheon is an open house to honor Grandparents Day, Senior Center Month and Patriot Day.
Sept. 13 – There will be a Fall Prevention and Emergency Preparedness presentation.
Kylertown Center:
Sept. 10 – There will be an open house with a blanket-making demonstration, Healthy Steps in Motion, a board game tournament and crafts.
Sept. 11 – There will be Falls Prevention and Awareness by Dubois Women’s Health Center.
Coalport Center:
Sept. 18 – There will be Falls Prevention and Awareness presented by the Mountain Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Sept. 25 – There will be a Prime Time Health presentation and September Birthdays Party
Mahaffey Center:
Sept. 10 – There will be Therapy for Fall Prevention presented by Hillsdale Nursing and Rehab
Sept. 11 – There will be an open house for you to see what the Center has to offer. Refreshments will be served and Beverly Davis will entertain with country/gospel music.
