New bridges reduce PennDOT’s structurally deficient list in Clearfield and Centre counties
CLEARFIELD – On Friday PennDOT will open two new bridges in the Philipsburg area. Replacing the bridges removes them from the structurally deficient list and provides area drivers with safer, more efficient travel across modern structures.
The first bridge is in Clearfield County and is located about two miles east of West Decatur on Route 2024 (Pleasant Hill Road). Replacement has been underway since mid-May. The bridge spans Little Laurel Run and carries an average of 1,000 vehicles each day.
Once the bridge re-opens, the detour around the work zone will be lifted. Work has included replacement of the old bridge, approach work, paving, guide rail updates, and miscellaneous items. BECDIR Construction Company of Berlin Center, Ohio has been the contractor for this $1 million job.
The second bridge is located in Centre County less than a mile northeast of Philipsburg on Route 3034 (Loch Lomond Road). The bridge spans One Mile Run and carries about 300 vehicles each day. Crews are currently removing the temporary roadway that’s been in place since work began in mid-July. An alternating traffic pattern on the new bridge is in place, controlled by temporary traffic signals. Both lanes of the bridge will be opened on Friday. Work has included replacement of the old bridge, approach work, paving, guide rail updates, and miscellaneous items. BECDIR Construction Company has also been the contractor on this $870,000 project.
PennDOT thanks area drivers for their patience during these bridge replacements. Drivers are reminded to use caution through all work zones, obey posted speed limits and always buckle up.
