CLEARFIELD – A Drifting man who allegedly struck a pedestrian while driving under the influence pleaded guilty in Clearfield County Court.
Jeffrey Michael Nachman, 30, also pleaded guilty to recklessly endangering another person and two summaries. He was sentenced by Judge Paul Cherry to 60 days to 18 months in jail and one year consecutive probation. He was fined $795 plus costs. Originally, he was also charged with aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI.
The charges stem from an accident on Dec. 12 in Morris Township. According to the affidavit of probable cause, police were called to a traffic accident near Oak Grove Road. When they arrived the victim was receiving medical treatment.
An officer spoke with the driver of the vehicle, Nachman, who smelled of alcohol. After he was asked how much alcohol he had consumed, he said “probably too much.” When asked about the accident Nachman wasn’t sure what had occurred.
Nachman was asked to perform several field sobriety tests, which he failed. He was placed under arrest and taken to the Clearfield Hospital, where he consented to a blood test. It revealed his blood alcohol content was 0.146 percent. The legal limit of intoxication in Pennsylvania is 0.08 percent.
The victim sustained several broken ribs, a broken hand and numerous contusions.
