CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Borough Riverfront Redevelopment project continues to gain momentum, and it’s evident with this week’s activity at Market Square, located along Market Street, in downtown Clearfield, according to Robert A. Swales, chief executive officer of the Clearfield County Economic Development Corp.
In partnership with the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and the Underground Storage Tank Indemnification Fund (USTIF), the CCEDC continues to exceed the environmental standards along the West Branch of the Susquehanna River in Clearfield Borough. DMS Environmental Services LLC of Curwensville is active on-site unearthing an estimated 2,000 tons of soil as a result of the previously removed underground fuel storage tanks used by generations of fuel service stations of the past, said Swales.
He said upon removal of the soil and proper remediation, additional monitoring will continue to assure the site is in compliance with environmental standards. “We are extremely pleased with the partnership with DEP, USTIF and DMS Environmental in the cleanup effort for beneficial future reuse of this site,” he said. “It’s a great feeling for the CCEDC to play a critical part in the cleanup, especially along a major river and redevelopment project in Pennsylvania.”
The Clearfield Borough Riverfront Redevelopment project consists of a one-mile loop of land and redevelopment along the West Branch of the Susquehanna River, connecting Market Street Bridge to Nichols Street Bridge, said Swales. The CCEDC, he said, has conducted multiple planning meetings with engineering firms to establish preliminary design and engineering data. Survey activity has been completed to delineate the initial plans for purposes of future site development opportunities. The CCEDC, he said, has been in direct contact with all landowners for consideration of land acquisition to foster the redevelopment effort.
Additionally, Swales said the CCEDC is seeking assistance to identify co-developers who may have a vested interest in becoming a partner of the project. Those interested can contact the CCEDC directly.
