DUBOIS – A mother and daughter accused of breaking into an area business waived their rights to preliminary hearings before District Judge Patrick Ford.
Elizabeth Ann Pearsall, 43, 443 Main St., Reynoldsville, and Shannon Elizabeth Pearsall, 22, 216 Lincoln Hall Rd., Elizabeth, are charged with burglary, criminal trespass, criminal conspiracy, theft by unlawful taking and criminal mischief. Elizabeth Pearsall’s bail is $25,000, monetary and Shannon Pearsall’s is $50,000, monetary. Both remain in the Clearfield County Jail.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, on Aug. 9 police responded to an alarm at the Dollar General Store in Sandy Township. When they arrived they saw the front door glass had been broken and pieces of glass were strewn about the area. An employee of the store arrived and they checked the store for missing items. Several items were located on the floor next to the door. The employee was unable to determine what merchandise may have been taken. A surveillance video from a nearby business showed a small, red compact car traveling past the store at a high rate of speed.
On Aug. 12 police were notified that two individuals had been apprehended in Reynoldsville for breaking into Fox’s Pizza. The two used a red car matching the description of the car involved with the Dollar General burglary.
In an interview with police, Shannon Pearsall admitted to breaking into the Dollar General store with her mother. She explained she had recently lost her job and was short on money for food. She and her mother went to the store in her red car. She said it was her mother who smashed the glass. They both entered the store and removed various items including cereal and pop tarts. She also admitted she and her mother broke into the Dollar General store in Reynoldsville and the Hilltop store the same night in an attempt to steal food and cigarettes. The interview was concluded when Shannon Pearsall became emotionally upset. She refused to provide a written statement.
The cost to replace the glass panel at the Dollar General store was $717.52.
Shannon Pearsall also faces burglary charges in Jefferson County.
