Emily M. Bryan, 89, of West Decatur died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013 at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College.
She was born Dec. 7, 1923, in West Decatur, the daughter of the late Richard R. and Zola (Parks) Shimmel.
She had worked in the bakery department of the former Super Duper. During World War II, she worked in Buffalo, NY on war planes.
She was a member of the Church of God in Wallaceton. She volunteered with her church whenever needed. When living in Hyde, she joined the Hyde Baptist Church and was the treasurer. She also taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, made crafts and played the piano.
She is survived by three sons, James E. Bryan and his wife, Shirl of Philipsburg, Dennis K. Bryan and his wife, Patricia of West Decatur and Duane L. Bryan and his wife, Theresa of Hyde; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and three sisters and one brother, Berva Damm of Duncansville; Joan Wisor of Mineral Springs, Stanley Shimmel of Osceola Mills and Lola Hepfur of Renova.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Carl E. Bryan, who died Feb. 13, 1982 and a brother, Edmund Shimmel.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home Inc., 312 E. Locust St., Clearfield, PA 16830, with the Rev. Sue Patterson officiating. A time to share memories and have an opportunity to view will be from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Reidy Cemetery, Wallaceton.
