Boy Scout Troop 9 of Clearfield recently traveled to near Smethport for the 48th annual Calumet International Camporee held at Elk Lick Scout Reserve with more than 500 scouts and leaders attending.
The Troop entered four patrols in the competition that was comprised of 12 stations in which scouts had to use teamwork, scout skills and problem solving. In addition, there were six individual events in which scouts had to use their own skills to compete.
Troop 9 came away with three first placewinners, six second placewinners and three third placewinners in the patrol competition. In the individual events, the scouts earned three first placewinners and had one second placewinner.
They also had an Iron Scout Competition with four stations, including swimming, canoeing, running and biking with two first placewinners, Alec Freeman in the youth division and Ryan Sayers in the adult division. Â There was also a Dutch oven contest in which Mike Mayersky placed first in the desert division out of the 11 deserts entered.
Troop 9 came in second in the campsite inspection and was also awarded the 2013 Calumet International Camporee Overall Unit Champions.
