RUSH TOWNSHIP – A 44-year-old Julian man, Mark L. Tice, was killed in an all-terrain vehicle accident on Saturday on Tram Road in Rush Township, according to the state police at Philipsburg.
DuBois Woman Sentenced to Prison for Stealing $92K
CLEARFIELD – A DuBois woman accused of taking more than $90,000 from her employer over a period of years recently pleaded guilty in Clearfield County Court.
Dana M. Stivers, 46, 318 Kuntz St., DuBois, pleaded guilty to 100 counts of theft by deception. She was sentenced to nine months to four years in state prison and was fined $1,110 plus costs. She must pay restitution of more than $92,000.
Change Orders for CHS Project Save $109,241
CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Area School District Board of Directors will save $109,241 on the additions and alterations to the Clearfield Area High School after approving change orders to two contracts with Leonard S. Fiore Inc. during Monday night’s meeting.
CASD Reaches Two More Settlements against Subcontractors
CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Area School District Board of Directors reached two more settlements against subcontractors of the Girard-Goshen Elementary School.
At Monday night’s meeting, the board voted, 8-0, to accept the settlements of $60,000 from Keymark Engineering and of $65,000 from GAF Materials Corp. with a delivery of a voucher for 350 squares of GAF Timberline Ultra Shingles.
In May the district voted to accept a settlement of $10,000 from Keymark Enterprises LLC. According to district Solicitor Aimee Willett, these settlements stem from the original construction of Girard-Goshen.
Castonguay: FEMA Denies Request for Disaster Assistance
DUBOIS – The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has denied Sandy Township’s request for disaster assistance, reported Township Manager Dick Castonguay at Monday night’s board of supervisors meeting.

Man Killed in Motorcycle Accident Involving Elk
BENEZETTE TOWNSHIP – A 52-year-old Weedville man, Alvin E. Shutters Jr., was killed in an accident this morning after his motorcycle struck an elk on state Route 555 in Benezette Township.
PA’s No Child Left Behind Waiver Request Approved by U.S. Dept. of Ed
HARRISBURG – Gov. Tom Corbett has announced that the U.S. Department of Education has approved the state’s No Child Left Behind waiver request that will help make Pennsylvania’s public schools better for children and their families.

Clearfield Hospital Applauded for “A Culture of Always” Program
CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Hospital was applauded for an innovative program that has improved its patient care and satisfaction during a special awards ceremony on Wednesday.
Andy Carter, president and chief executive officer of The Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania, presented the prestigious HAP 2013 Achievement Award to the Clearfield Hospital for its “A Culture of Always” program. Clearfield Hospital, according to him, was one of only 19 hospitals recognized statewide for innovative programs to improve patient care and safety, workplace relations and community benefits. This year, Carter said, there were 131 entries from across the commonwealth.
