Each year students from all of the career and technical education programs at Jeff Tech have the opportunity to compete at local/regional, state and national levels through the Skills USA Competition.
This year Jeff Tech sophomore Justin Gooden, who is in the protective services program, competed on the regional level. He placed first in criminal justice, which earned him the opportunity to move on to the state competition in Hershey.
At the state level, Gooden placed first and earned the honor to represent the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania at the National Skills USA Competition in Kansas City. The National Competition has more than 5,600 students from across the nation and participating in 94 different competitions.
Gooden competed against students from across the United States in the field of criminal justice. The competition included a written and a performance exam. Although only a sophomore, Gooden finished with the honor of placing 16th in the entire nation.
Each year the Jeff Tech protective services program accepts approximately 10 new students into the four-year program.
