DBC earns honor for supporting local Pentz Run Youth Services
HARRISBURG – Sometimes, education is about learning to help others.
That’s the inspiration behind the annual Community Service Awards, presented to select member schools across Pennsylvania by the Pennsylvania Association of Private School Administrators (PAPSA). The 2013 winner in the association’s central region is DuBois Business
College, for its ongoing contributions of meals, gifts, entertainment and much more to Pentz Run Youth Services Inc. in DuBois.
During the past two decades, DuBois Business College faculty, staff and students have excelled in promoting social responsibility within the community through ongoing support of Pentz Run Youth Services. A safe, secure, nurturing environment for young people who require short- or long-term alternatives to family living, Pentz Run offers those in its care a change to complete their education and eventually be mainstreamed back into the community.
DuBois Business College provides food and fun to the boys and girls at Pentz Run, with some of the support coming in the form of holiday season meals and treats, gifts at Christmas, Easter baskets, and also a summer picnic.
“There are components to a quality education beyond attending classes, reading and taking notes,” observes Dick Dumaresq, PAPSA’s executive director. “Students can learn so much about society and the world around them by joining together for the benefit of others. This DuBois Business College project is an excellent example — it’s truly inspiring.”
