Construction to Start after Labor Day
CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Swimming Pool Association has awarded contracts for the renovation of the Clearfield Community Swimming Pool, and construction is set to start after Labor Day.
For the past three years, the association has been planning a comprehensive renovation of the swimming pool facility. In November of 2012, the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) awarded the association a $500,000 grant to match that raised in the community to rehabilitate and modernize the pool.
The association recently awarded the contract for pool construction to William L. Watson Company of Eden, NY and the contract for the general construction to J.C. Orr & Son of Altoona. The $1 million renovation project will include the addition of a dual waterslide to the main pool, several shade structures, a modern wading pool and splash pad, resurfacing the bottom of the main pool, replacing the pool deck and perimeter fencing and updating the restroom and changing room facilities.
The project will also bring the pool into full compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and other building and bathing codes.
Brian Marshall, president of the Clearfield Swimming Pool Association, said it’s pleased with the way the project is taking shape. “The association worked very hard to design a project that gets the most for the money we have available. The bids for the project came in a little less than we had budgeted, which has allowed us to elect some additional options that we were not sure we could afford.”
According to Marshall, the association is pleased to be working with the William L. Watson Company and J.C. Orr & Sons. “Over the years, the William L. Watson Company has performed other work at the pool, including a new gutter system in the late 1990’s and a new filtration system in the early 2000’s, and they have always performed high quality work for us. We are also pleased to be working with J.C. Orr & Sons, a long established and reputable company.”
While the renovation will complete the overhaul of the infrastructure of the facility that began with the replacement of the gutter and filtration system, the most noticeable aspect of this project to the public will be the addition of the modern amenities to the facility, such as the dual waterslide and the construction of the activity pool, which will include more than a dozen interactive water play features. “After the renovation, the pool will be one of the most modern and up-to-date aquatic facilities in the region. The renovated facility will serve the community very well for decades to come,” said Marshall.
According to Marshall, the renovation is to be complete by April 30, 2014, and the pool facility will be open for the 2014 swimming season, with an anticipated opening over the Memorial Day weekend.
