CLEARFIELD – Clearfield County District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr. has announced the capture of a wanted fugitive.
Shaw identified the fugitive as Brandon Hummel, 17, of Main Street, Winburne. Hummel was added to the Clearfield County Fugitive of the Week list on July 22.
On March 19 Lieutenant Todd E. Lombardo of the Morris Cooper Regional Police Department filed a petition, charging Hummel with receiving stolen property, prohibited offensive weapons and possession of a firearm by minor. On April 15 Hummel was certified as an adult, and the case was transferred to Clearfield County, Court of Common Pleas, Adult Division.
An affidavit of probable cause filed by Lombardo states that on March 2 the Morris Cooper Regional Police Department received a report of a theft of a firearm. Upon investigation it was found that Hummel had entered into the victim’s residence through a window and had unlawfully removed a .22-caliber handgun and U.S. currency. Upon further investigation, it was found that Hummel had given the handgun to another individual in exchange for synthetic marijuana.
On July 18 Hummel failed to appear for a pre-trial conference, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Shaw stated that an anonymous tip provided the location of Hummel. On July 22 deputies from the Clearfield County Sheriff’s Office apprehended Hummel at a residence in Morrisdale, and he was taken into custody without incident. Shaw acknowledged that Hummel was located as the direct result of a citizen’s willingness to provide information to law enforcement.
Shaw thanked the Clearfield County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance with this case.
