Walter T. Sitosky, 88, of Houtzdale died at Monday, July 22, 2013 at his residence. He was born at Juneau on March 20, 1925.
He was one of many children to Santurin and Adella (Nowicki) Sitosky. He was a resident of Houtzdale for 49 years.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded a Silver Star for gallantry in action against the enemy in Belgium
Mr. Sitosky worked as a welder at C&K Coal Company for 15 years before he retired. He was a parishioner of Christ the King Church, Houtzdale.
He was a member of the American Legion, Freeberg Post 0591, Houtzdale, and the Richard L. Beers V.F.W. Post 7043, Blain City.
He also took pride in his garden and was an avid fisherman for many years.
On Feb. 5, 1949, he married Emma Wiley in Johnstown. She survives of Houtzdale.
He’s survived by seven children, Susan Swisher and her husband, George of Morrisdale; Virginia Bashore and her husband Dale of Omaha, NE; Walter Sitosky and his wife,
Gloria; Emma L. Sitosky; James C. Sitosky and Brian E. Sitosky, all of Houtzdale; and Matthew C. Sitosky and his wife, Andrea of Clearfield.
He is survived by seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his siblings, Emily Serian and Irene Lazar, both of Ohio, Edward Murphy of Pennsylvania and Natalie Brooks and her husband, Wayne of New York.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Sadek Sitosky, Matthew Sitosky, Edward Sitosky, Stanley Sitosky, Jack Sitosky, Joseph Sitosky, Natalie Mezerock, Susan Deitric, Adell Bacosky, Jean Murphy and Joan Dordan.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. – 10:15 a.m. Friday at the Kruise Funeral Home Inc., Ramey.
Military honors will be accord by the American Legion Honor Guard at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Houtzdale, with Fr. Stanley J. Swacha as celebrant.
