CLEARFIELD – The Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library has continued its activities as part of the “Dig Into Reading” summer reading program.
This week youth of all ages were entertained by Adam Swartz and his puppet, Joe Flashlight, and Tammy Henry taught school age participants how to grow and maintain a garden. Finally school age youth turned an ordinary rock into an extraordinary animal.
The second Family Fun Night of the summer will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday. Youth of all ages and their families will participate in “Name That…,” a twist on the popular television game show. Test your knowledge of all things underground.
At 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, the Read-to-Me participants will experience the great fun of getting clean after playing in the dirt: bubbles. Children will make a bubble mixture and wands and then send bubbles up in the air.
School Age A and School Age B youth are invited to bring a plain T-shirt to the library at 10:30 a.m. July 17. Participants will use root vegetables to make unique designs on the T-shirt.
The Dig Into Reading weekly line-up of activities concludes at 10:30 a.m. July 18. In “Dirt Movers,” School Age A and School Age B will participate in several outdoor games that are all about construction vehicles.
The Garden Shop will be open for youth to redeem all reading and attendance incentives. Visit the front desk of the library on Monday, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. and July 19, from 12 until 3 p.m., to receive any earned Veggie Bills. Youth are encouraged to bring any seeds from recent program attendance as well.
Beneath the Surface, a summer reading program for young adults, concludes activities at 2 p.m. July 18. “Cooking Beneath the Surface” will enable young adults to create a recipe using fresh fruits and vegetables. Those interested in attending are required to register for the program at the front desk of the library prior to 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Adults enrolled in the Groundbreaking Reads summer reading program are reminded to submit a recipe using fresh fruits and or vegetables to be compiled into a “From Garden to Table” recipe book. Forms for recipe submission are available at the front desk of the library. Finally any adult interested in learning more about Facebook should contact the front desk of the library for more information on a Facebook Photo Novice class.
Young adult and adult summer reading participants are encouraged to visit the front desk of the Shaw Public Library to redeem any earned reading incentives.
Registration for the Dig Into Reading summer reading program continues throughout the summer. All registrations are completed online at Shaw Public Library’s Web site. Registration is completed when participants pick up their registration packets at the front desk of the library.
Children ages birth through preschool age should enroll in the Read-to-Me program. Youth who have completed kindergarten through grade two are encouraged to participate in the School Age A program and those who have completed grades three through five will enroll in the School Age B program. The Beneath the Surface young adult summer reading program is open to anyone who has completed grades six through eleven and Groundbreaking Reads adult summer reading program is available to all adults, including 2013 high school graduates.
