READING – The FirstEnergy Foundation has contributed $5,000 to the American Red Cross Heartland Chapter to support relief efforts for residents affected by recent torrential rains and flooding in Clearfield and Jefferson counties.
FirstEnergy Corp. is the parent company of Pennsylvania Electric Company (Penelec), whose customers were particularly impacted by severe weather.
The storm slammed into Dubois and the surrounding area the week of June 27, flooding major roadways and causing widespread power outages in portions of the Penelec territory.
“As a nonprofit organization, the local Red Cross relies on its generous donors, like FirstEnergy, to continue its lifesaving work in Jefferson and Clearfield counties,” said Jason Bange, executive director of the Red Cross PA Heartland Chapter. “This donation will allow us to continue to provide vital assistance to affected residents.”
“Our company has a long-standing tradition of supporting the communities we serve,” said Scott Wyman, regional president of Penelec. “Providing this timely grant to the local American Red Cross chapter will help those who are still recovering from the effects of the storm.”
The FirstEnergy Foundation is funded solely by FirstEnergy Corp. and provides support to non-profit, tax-exempt health and human services agencies; educational organizations; cultural and arts programs and institutions; and civic groups in areas served by FirstEnergy’s 10 electric operating companies and in areas where the company has facilities.
Penelec serves approximately 590,000 customers in 31 Pennsylvania counties.
