CASD Hears Preliminary PSSA Results
CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield school board heard preliminary results for its students’ Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) exams in grades three through eight during an administrative report Monday night by Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Federal Programs Bruce Nicolls.
Victims Identified in Double-fatal Accident
UNION TOWNSHIP – The DuBois-based state police have identified the two people who were killed in yesterday’s double-fatal accident that occurred at approximately 12:45 p.m. on U.S. Route 322 in Union Township.
Students Save Residents from Colonial Courtyard Fire
CLEARFIELD – Students helped save the lives of dozens of residents when a fire engulfed Colonial Courtyard, an assisted living facility, shortly before 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. The facility is located at 1300 Leonard St. in Lawrence Township.
Tammy Miller of State College was teaching her Communication class of 23 men and one woman at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers near the facility. Her students were presenting speeches but became distracted by the lightning glaring into their classroom.
County Tables Hotel Tax Funds for Clearfield YMCA
CLEARFIELD – At Tuesday’s regular meeting, the Clearfield County Commissioners tabled awarding Hotel Tax Discretionary Funds to the Clearfield YMCA and asked Solicitor Kim Kesner to provide his written opinion upon his review of Pennsylvania’s Hotel Tax statues.

WASHINGTON — In significant but incomplete victories for gay rights, the Supreme Court on Wednesday struck down a provision of a federal law denying federal benefits to married gay couples and cleared the way for the resumption of same-sex marriage in California.

CLEARFIELD – A fire engulfed Colonial Courtyard, an assisted living facility, at approximately 7:20 p.m. Tuesday, and damage estimates have exceeded $3 million, according to the state police at Clearfield.
Clearfield Man Arraigned on Sexual Assault Charges
CLEARFIELD – A Clearfield man accused of sexually assaulting a 3-year-old girl was arraigned Wednesday with his bail being set at $100,000 straight, according to Magisterial District Judge Richard Ireland’s office.

CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Commissioners have declared a disaster emergency due to flooding conditions in areas of Clearfield County, according to Commissioner Mark B. McCracken.
ARC Operating Shelters, Offering Safety Tips due to Flooding in Clearfield and Jefferson Counties
DUBOIS – Heavy rainfall has resulted in flooding across parts of Clearfield and Jefferson counties; the local American Red Cross is mobilizing volunteers and supplies to assist individuals affected by the inclement conditions. The organization is currently operating shelters for evacuated individuals at DuBois High School in DuBois and Sigel Civic Center in Sigel.
Nearly 170 Affected Residents Staying in Red Cross Shelters Thursday Night
DUBOIS – In response to the destructive flood waters and heavy downpours, the American Red Cross in Western Pennsylvania is operating two local shelters, supporting one shelter, mobilizing its workforce as well as preparing mobile feeding and relief supplies distribution.
PHOTOS: Storm Causes Flooding in DuBois
DUBOIS – Severe flooding struck Clearfield and Jefferson counties Thursday, closing numerous roadways, leaving communities under water and prompting officials to issue declarations of disaster emergencies.
The National Weather Service (NWS) forewarned of the storm about mid-morning. The warning cited possibilities of: flash flooding due to excessive rainfall rates; flooding in low-lying areas; and streams rising and overflowing their banks.
Then, the storm erupted with heavy rainfall and swiftly turned roadways into streams. In an emergency announcement shortly after 2:20 p.m. Thursday, Sandy Township police advised all roadways had been closed heading into and out of the township.
Hearing Gets Continued in Aggravated Assault Case
CLEARFIELD – A Woodland man accused of assaulting and threatening a woman had his preliminary hearing continued before Magisterial District Judge Richard Ireland during Centralized Court on Wednesday at the Clearfield County Jail.
