CLEARFIELD – A Clearfield man accused of assaulting and threatening a woman had his preliminary hearing continued before Magisterial District Judge Richard Ireland during Centralized Court on Wednesday at the Clearfield County Jail.
Everson Brian Berringer, 23, of Clearfield is facing charges of aggravated assault, simple assault (two counts), terroristic threats and harassment. His hearing was continued until 11 a.m. July 17.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, on June 17 Clearfield Borough police observed a motorist run a blinking red light from East Locust Street and make a right-hand turn onto North Third Street. Berringer was identified as the motorist, and during the stop, police noticed he was sweating and shaking. Police were advising Berringer he would receive a citation by mail when a domestic dispute call came in.
After police cleared the scene of the traffic stop, Clearfield County 911 notified them that Berringer had been involved in the domestic dispute. Police proceeded to pursue Berringer and stopped him in the area of East 12th Street and Woodland Road.
Further information revealed Berringer had allegedly struck the victim multiple times. In addition, police found the victim had an active protection from abuse order against Berringer. Police checked Berringer for weapons and transported him to the police station.
When interviewed by police in a separate room at the station, the victim was “very upset” and had noticeable marks on her hand and face. The victim told police she also had bumps from when Berringer had punched her forehead and the back of her head.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, the victim pulled into the Sheetz parking lot around 10 or 10:30 p.m. on June 17. Berringer pulled in behind her. She said he rolled down his window, gave her “mean looks” and yelled at her to “get [in] the car” or he would “[expletive] kill me.” The victim complied even though she was “fearful of what he would do.”
Berringer allegedly drove off, asking the victim questions such as, “Why the [expletive] did you file a PFA?” He took her cellular phone after she got into his vehicle and allegedly threatened to kill her many times. Berringer told her if she went through with the PFA he would kill her before it was finalized.
The victim said Berringer drove through the median several times and did “donuts.” He screamed, “Are you scared now?” When she asked to be taken back to her vehicle, Berringer continued yelling and went to Upper Witmer Park across from the police station.
There, Berringer ordered her from the vehicle; however, she couldn’t get out because the child locks were on. Berringer proceeded to hold her head down and punched her multiple times, which left bumps.
After that Berringer drove toward Curwensville and at one point allegedly ripped off his vehicle mirror and threw it at the victim. He also allegedly grabbed the victim really hard and told her if she didn’t act like everything was OK, he would rape her. Berringer allegedly struck the victim again multiple times.
Berringer proceeded to drive to the baseball field before Lawrence Park and allegedly struck the victim again there. Later he told her to get out near the Choice Gas Station and returned her cellular phone.
Before leaving the victim, Berringer allegedly told her he would kill her that same night if she contacted police. He then pointed to the ditch, saying her parents would find her dead body there. Berringer then drove off.
The victim walked to her car to contact police. That night she was transported to the Clearfield Hospital for treatment. She had complained of “blurred vision, dizziness and becoming light-headed.”
