Anna (Basarab) Kohan, 96, of Ramey died Sunday, June 23, 2013 at Windy Hill Village of the Presbyterian Homes, Philipsburg.
Mrs. Kohan was born Sept. 15, 1916 at Madera, the eldest daughter of the late Onufer “Frank” and Mary (Kopichak) Basarab.
She was a life-long parishioner of St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Ramey, where she served as housekeeper for many years. She also was a member of the League of Ukrainian Catholics and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, St. Victoria’s Court 646, Houtzdale.
She married Michael Kohan at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on Nov. 8, 1956.
Mrs. Kohan is survived by two sons and a daughter, John Gus Kohan of Newark, DE; Michael B. Kohan and his wife, Ana Maria of El Paso, TX and Mary K. Osborne and her husband, Herbert of Newark, DE.
She is survived by four grandchildren, David Kohan and his wife, Daria; Christopher Kohan and his wife, Amy; Rosa Spraggins; and Lorraine Nanez and her husband, Robert; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Kohan is also survived by two sisters, Kathryn Lumanick of Port Orange, Fla.; Susan Warholic of Beccaria; and a brother, Paul Fenchak and his wife, Ellen of Lutherville, MD.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Kohan was preceded in death by a great-grandson; a sister, Mary Basarab Marks; and six brothers, George Basarab, Stephen Basarab, Michael Basarab, John Basarab, Andrew Fenchak and Frank Fenchak.
Friends will be received from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday and from 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Kruise Funeral Home Inc., Ramey. A Parastas Service will be sung at 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, Ramey, with Fr. Anthony Balistreri officiating.
Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Ramey.
