HARRISBURG – PennDOT has invited motorcyclists to participate in National Ride to Work Day on Monday, and urged riders to ride safely on that day and throughout the riding season.
“National Ride to Work Day is a great way to highlight the freedom and excitement riders experience on their motorcycles,” PennDOT Secretary Barry J. Schoch said. “The event is also a reminder that motorcycles and other vehicles should share the road safely throughout the riding season so we can all enjoy Pennsylvania’s roadways.”
To help ensure safe riding year round, riders should wear reflective clothing to increase visibility, ride sober and allow ample time and space to react to changing roadway conditions or hazards.
Riders are encouraged to attend free training offered through the Pennsylvania Motorcycle Safety Program, which offers four courses – the 15-hour Basic Rider Course (BRC); the six-hour Basic Rider Course 2 (BRC2); the eight-hour Advanced Rider Course (ARC); and the 12-hour 3-Wheeled Motorcycle Basic Rider Course (3WBRC).

According to PennDOT, there were nearly 4,000 accidents involving motorcycles statewide last year, resulting in 210 fatalities.
