OSCEOLA MILLS – On behalf of Gov. Tom Corbett, PennDOT has announced that work to rehabilitate a bridge on the Clearfield County/Centre County line will start Monday, in Osceola Mills.
Work to improve the existing structure of the Osceola Mills truss bridge (Route 2051 in Clearfield County and Route 3049 in Centre County) will allow PennDOT to remove the bridge from the list of structurally deficient bridges. Replacement will also provide area drivers with safer, more efficient travel across the structure.
Weather permitting work will begin Monday with drivers seeing minor traffic interruptions. When this is necessary, flaggers will be in place to alert motorists to changing conditions. A detour will be put into place later this summer in early August as work progresses.
The bridge spans Moshannon Creek in Osceola Mills Borough, Clearfield County, and Rush Township, Centre County. The bridge was built in 1932, is 113 feet long and carries an average of 940 vehicles each day.
Work is expected to last through late October and includes structural steel repairs, replacement of the bridge deck and approaches, reconstruction of asphalt approaches and new sidewalks and curbs. Francis J. Palo Inc. of Clarion is the contractor for this $1.2 million job.
Drivers are reminded to obey posted speed limits and always buckle up.
