Lavone D. “Dot” Rowles, 81, of Smithmill, and formerly of Clearfield, died Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at the Altoona Regional Medical Center, Altoona Hospital Campus.
Born Dec. 15, 1931 in Clearfield, she was the daughter of Warren J. and Lena M. (Hoover) Hoover. She had previously worked for the U.S. Pentagon as a secretary and also was a waitress at the former Clearfield Diner for numerous years.
She was Methodist by faith and was a member of N.O.N. and Clearfield American Legion Auxiliary.
On Jan. 30, 1952 in Washington D.C., she wed Marvin Lee Rowles Sr., who preceded her in death on April 15, 1989.
She is survived by five children, Gregory Lee Rowles and his wife, Deirdre of Frenchville, Valerie Lee Kestler and Michael Lee Rowles, both of Tulsa OK., Marvin Lee Rowles Jr. of Clearfield and Mark Lee Rowles of Smithmill; three grandchildren, Marvin L. “TJ” Rowles III, John Kestler and Natalie R. Rowles; one great-granddaughter, Tigerlily Lakis; and a sister, LaRue Vallimont and her husband, Joseph of Clearfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; an infant son, Clifford Lee Rowles; two sisters, Losetta Graffius and Lucile Bowman; and a brother, John J. Hoover.
Funeral services for Mrs. Lavone Rowles will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc. of Clearfield, with her nephew, the Rev. Timothy Hoover officiating. Burial will follow in Crown Crest Memorial Park in Hyde.
Friends will be received from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. until the hour of services Monday at the funeral home.
