DUBOIS — Federation League newcomer Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub of Clearfield broke into the win column by snapping a 4-4 tie with three runs in the top of the seventh inning and holding off the DuBois Rockets 7-5 Tuesday evening.
Chad Zurat relieved starter Ben McGary in the fifth inning and recorded the victory. He struck out three and didn’t allow a hit over the final 2-2/3 innings but did give up a run in the bottom of the seventh.
McGary had one strikeout and four walks in 4-1/3 innings. The Rockets solved him for eight hits and four runs, all earned.
Derek Danver paced Denny’s 10-hit attack against Dom Kriner with a double and two singles and scored twice.
Mike Davidson and Phil Solley, who doubled, chimed in with two hits apiece, while Thomas Yeager drove in two runs.
For the Rockets, Sean Sleigh had three hits and Kriner had two.
Denny’s (1-1) will play its home opener Wednesday against NAPA at the Bison Sports Complex.
