HARRISBURG – House Speaker Samuel H. Smith issued the following statement earlier today after learning of the death of former Pennsylvania Gov. George Leader:
“My heartfelt condolences go out to the entire Leader family on what is truly a sad day in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Our state has lost a great man who devoted a significant portion of his life to public service and ensuring the welfare of the residents of Pennsylvania.
“Governor Leader served on the Legislative Swearing-In Committee that was formed shortly before my first term as Speaker began. Our interactions left me with a true sense of his noble character and sincere passion for the issues confronting our state. The Commonwealth has lost an outstanding gentlemen and a courageous leader.”
