The Animal Welfare Council of the Alleghenies held its first-ever Pet Grief Support Group meeting April 30 at the Allegheny Spay & Neuter Clinic. The response was well received by attendees.
Most of the attendees had recently lost their pets. Some brought photos to share, poems to read and stories about their beloved family pet.
The Pet Grief support group is not limited to just your domestic house pet. Some shared stores of their horses and ponies that have passed on as well. The group provides a feeling of knowing someone else is also dealing with the same thing you are when you have lost a cherished pet, big or small, domestic or farm, helps you cope with your loss.
The Pet Grief support group is going to meet the second and fourth Tuesday of every month. As one of the attendees stated, families and people lose pets every day and there needs to be an outlet to which they can come and talk to help get through the grieving process.
If you have recently lost a cherished pet or know of someone who has and would like to join the next meeting and share the joy your pet brought to you, please attend. The meetings are being held at the Animal Welfare Council/Allegheny Spay & Neuter Clinic office located at 1380 Shawville Hwy. in Woodland (adjacent to the Woodland Post Office). The meetings begin at 6 p.m. and are free and everyone is welcome.
The next meeting will be May 14.
